The enterprise tier of Magento

What is Adobe Commerce, and is it worth the licence?

Adobe Commerce is the paid edition of Magento. Under the bonnet it's the same core as the free Magento Open Source, with a set of enterprise features added on top and Adobe's support behind it. The licence runs into tens of thousands a year, so the only question that matters is simple: will you actually use what it adds?

What the licence actually buys you

These are the out-of-the-box features you can't get in Open Source. If several of them map onto how you actually trade, the licence earns its place. If they don't, keep reading.

B2B suite

Company accounts, shared catalogues, customer-specific pricing, quotes, quick order, requisition lists and approval workflows. The strongest single reason to be on Adobe Commerce.

Live Search

Adobe's AI-powered on-site search, far better than the default Magento search at returning relevant results quickly.

Product Recommendations

AI-driven recommendation blocks (related, trending, bought-together) built into the catalogue rather than bolted on.

Segmentation & targeting

Customer segments with rules-based pricing, promotions and content, so different groups can see different offers.

Content staging & preview

Schedule price and content changes ahead of time and preview them before they go live. Genuinely useful for busy trading calendars.

Trading extras & support

Returns (RMA), gift cards, store credit and reward points out of the box, plus Adobe's security patches with an SLA and a managed cloud option.

The blunt take

If you're not using these features, don't pay for them.

Plenty of merchants run Adobe Commerce exactly like Open Source: no B2B, no segmentation, no staging, default search. They're paying a premium for a platform they aren't using the premium parts of.

If that's you, the honest answer is to either start using what you're paying for, or drop to Magento Open Source and put the licence money into the storefront instead. We'll tell you which, straight.

A quick gut check
?Do you sell B2B, with company accounts and custom pricing?
?Do you segment customers and run targeted pricing or promotions?
?Do you schedule content and price changes around trading events?
?Do you need a vendor SLA and managed security patching?

Mostly yes, it likely pays back. Mostly no, you're probably overpaying.

The wider Adobe stack you'll be offered

Adobe Commerce is one piece of Adobe's Experience Cloud, their digital experience platform. Once you're in, the sales conversation widens to the rest of it. Worth knowing what's adjacent, and that you very rarely need all of it.

Our job is to help you tell what earns its keep from what's just on the price list. Most merchants need a fraction of this, joined up well, rather than all of it half-used.
